چکیده

Lactating goats fed a basal ration containing 11% crude protein, were infused intra-abomasally with 45g/d of either casein or glucose, in an attempt to determine whether milk production responsesto casein infusions could be attributed to gluconeogenesis from the casein. Infusions of casein increased the production of milk and milk constituents whereas the-production during glucose infusions was similar to that on the basal ration. Milk fat content was depressed by the glucose infusion. The output of nitrogen in milk and urine was increased during the casein infusion. Consideration of the data from this and other similar experiments leads us to conclude that the production response to casein infusion post ruminally, cannot be attributed to an increased availability of glucose precursors.

Responses to postruminal infusions of graded levels of casein in lactating goats.

1. A study was made in goats of the response in terms of milk production, nitrogen utilization, plasma amino acids and amino acid uptake by the mammary gland, to postruminal infusion of casein. Goats in early lactation, housed in metabolism cages, were fed on 2-5 kg basal ration/d (containing 111 g crude protein (N X 6-25)/kg) and were given, by infusion into the abomasum, 0, 15, 30 or 45 g cas...

Responses to Starch Infusion on Milk Synthesis in Low Yield Lactating Dairy Cows

The effect of starch infusion on production, metabolic parameters and relative mRNA abundance was investigated in low yield lactating cows from 86 days in milk. Six Holstein cows fitted with permanent ruminal cannulas were arranged into one of two complete 3×3 Latin squares and infused with a starch solution containing 800 grams starch for 16 days. The three treatments were: i) ruminal and abom...

Effect of Rumex Sc on Ruminal Fermentation, Blood Metabolites and Performance of Lactating Dairy Cow

This study investigated the effect of Rumex Sc (commercial product which includes of Saccharomyces cervisiae, saponin and essential oils) on rumen fermentation, blood glucose, urea, milk yield and milk composition. Animals were offered a basal diet containing alfalfa hay (15.5%), corn silage (24%), beet pulp (7%) and concentrate (53.5%). Additionally, Rumex Sc was included in the experimental d...
